Negative Impacts

Trolling
Cyber-bullying
When an individual/company is persistently targeted in a negative way online, usually through social media channels.
The number of social media platforms available has led to a proliferation in this, as has the fact that users enjoy a degree of anonymity when posting via social media sites.
Case Study: Ariane Grande
After she split with Mac Miller and he died from a drug overdose, Grande was trolled online. As a result, she was trolled online.
Privacy
Productivity
Connection
Filters and Photoshop- Demi Lovato got fat shamed on Instagram
Face Tune easily allows users to easily edit their bodies and faces giving people unrealistic expectations of how they should look.
Negative Body Image- Obsessing over the Instagram posts of others can lead to feelings of negative self-worth- both from the lives influencers proport to lead (they only show the good stuff) and from the images themselves, many of which have had filters added, or have been extensively photoshopped.
Some lenses distort how people look and therefore think about themselves.

Backlashes against brands
Kim Kardashian's 'Kimono' line offended Japanese people as the word is Japanese for a traditional Japanese dress resulting in the hashtag #Kimohno meaning she had to change the name of her brand.

One way which brand receive negative comments receive negative comments is through memes.
A meme is an idea, behaviour or style that spreads via social networks from person to person and that usually involves a sarcastic or critical statement. This is known as parodying.
With enough likes and shares, campaigns can go viral.

Social media can result in:
Decreased productivity at work
A false sense of connection between people who meet online rather than in real life
Loss of privacy

Imperialism
One criticism of globalisation is that it leads to imperialism- that is, the way in which predominantly Western popular culture is promoted to less developed countries. This may, in turn, lead to the gradual erosion if those less developed countries.
Disney is an example of this.
