The process of international integration arising from the interchange and exchange of products, ideas, politics and pop culture. Globalisation is also seen as a way that international boundaries that once existed are broken down by the advent of new technologies. Social media has contributed to this.

The way in which the web connects people from all over the world. The term was coined by Marshall Mcluhan in 1964. Basing his theories on the rise of television, he suggested new technologies could lead to a library network where people could access all manner of information.

People who celebrate the potential for collaboration and connectivity with new technologies. The believe online and social media technologies

Electronic Agora
A term coined by Rheingold in 1991- is used to describe online meeting spaces, such as forums and chat rooms, where people can discuss topics, ideas and ways to achieve collaboration of projects

Open Source
Material that can be used or altered by companies as they wish

eSports
Virtual sports that are run on an electronic system, including MMORPGs. eSports communities have developed to such an extent that users come together in stadium venues to compete

SoundCloud
Artists can easily upload their music for free (up to two hours). Will cost money annually for four hours or ten hours meaning that its a level playing field in the sense that no one has to sign a record deal

KickStarter
Crowdfunding website where users can have their own projects funded.
An example of a product funded was Pebble Time: a smart watch that raised $20.4M of its $500,000 goal earning $1M in 49 minutes which went on to get bought by FitBit
